Cane
Caning is usually in two categories, Hand Cane and Pre-woven. Hand caning is done one strand at a time through holes drilled in the seat or back of the chair. Pre-woven cane comes in a sheet and goes into a groove routed into the seat or back. There are various weave patterns of pressed cane available and in different sizes of cane.
Rush
Rush seats look like a twisted grass woven around the seat frame in four sections joining in the middle. Generally it is woven with fiber rush. Real rush is costly and doesn't wear as well.
Splint
Splint is flat or flat oval and available in several different materials of varying widths and weave patterns.
Wicker
Wicker is a general term referring to items made from Round Reed, Wood, Rattan, Cane, Willow and Fiber.
Danish Cord
Danish Cord is used on many newer pieces. It is made of double twisted fibre and woven in various patterns. Normally, it goes around the frame in a single row unlike rush which goes around the frame top & bottom.
Shaker tapes
The Shakers created the woven fabric tape used in the weaving of their chairs. The tape is available in two sizes, 5/8" and 1". There are several pattern choices including herringbone and checkerboard. It is our practice to pad the seats for extra durability, comfort and wear.
